Employee Spotlight:
Helona

(1 minute read)

After studying her A-Level’s, Helona was on her way to train as nurse. Before doing so, she took a gap year and started working as a Care Assistant with us at Eglantine Villa.

Her passion, enjoyment, and the love for what she does, directed Helona to stay in Bupa, to train and study alongside her work in our Homes, where she has flourished within her career and continues to do so.

Now our Home Manager at Broad Oak Manor, Helona is perfect for her role and with a moto of “It costs nothing to be kind” encompasses our values at Bupa.

When recalling her first week, she told us, “As soon as I walked in, I felt I was part of a team and was valued. With a great culture, positive working environment along with colleagues that had been within the business for such a long time, that really said it all to me. I know I could build a career here.”

To make sure all who walk through the doors at Board Oak Manor feel valued, Helona told us “My favourite thing to do in the morning is to say ‘hello’ to everyone. I get to see and speak with my residents and teams, and this sets me up for a good day!”

Helona’s parents are first generation immigrants from Bangladesh, and she has a little sister who has special needs, to which she supports and cares for all. “I knew I would go into a career in care as I have looked after my family, so it comes naturally to me”. Through her experience at Bupa, she expressed the importance that “Care is put first - we make sure our residents and teams are all well looked after, feel safe and are happy”.

Always one to be involved in her Care homes, Helona told us “I love to organise events and if there is a party to be thrown, we will celebrate.”

Christmas obsessed, she shared how her, and the team made it a special time for their residents. “Everyone was involved, we dressed up as elf’s and made an immersive experience, reading books, telling stories, singing, playing games, and laughing. This gave us all the chance to celebrate and relax after what had been a difficult time due to the pandemic. The home was warm and joyful, and the residents told us we were like their second family which is just the environment I want to create.”

If Helona is not at work, you might find her being creative in the kitchen, decorating cakes or scrolling through Instagram, reading daily affirmations to set the energy for the day.
