Meet Henry, a vibrant Finance and Governance Graduate making waves at our Angel Court office in London.

Now an integral part of the Group Financial Reporting Team, Henry helps oversee the preparation of quarterly financial results for the board of directors. His role involves interacting with colleagues across five continents with the occasional early start to synchronize with the teams in Australia and Hong Kong.

“In my current role, I make health happen by ensuing that the data we receive is correct and presented in a clear format. This ensures that Senior Leadership understand what is going on in the business so they can make informed and timely decisions about the future of healthcare.”

Henry's journey at Bupa began as a placement student, rotating through Group Tax and Group Financial Planning and Analysis before returning to The University of Manchester for his final year. “The placement set me up very well for my final year of Uni. The original idea was to move to London, but the year fell during the pandemic, so I spent it mostly online. Despite this, I felt confident in the direction I wanted my career to go in after graduating, hoping to return to Bupa”.

Prior to his Bupa tenure, Henry donned multiple hats, ranging from chalet host to a surfing instructor. His eclectic background only added to his appreciation for Bupa's holistic approach to employee development and well-being, setting it apart from his prior experiences.

The structured nature of Bupa's Graduate scheme appealed to him, offering exposure to varied roles over the three years, fostering a broad range of experiences crucial for his professional growth and development, ultimately aiding in his career decision-making process. His decision to choose Bupa again, became simple: “I had a great year at Bupa during my placement and I liked the people I was working with. So, knowing the team was great, I looked forward to coming back.”

When it comes to his involvement in critical projects, Henry's contributions are multifaceted. Notably, his work with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) plays a vital role in ensuring Bupa's financial readiness to operate its 130-plus care homes. Managing the process end-to-end, Henry's responsibilities extend to planning, engaging stakeholders, and delivering the final product, thereby enhancing his skill set and providing a comprehensive learning experience.

On the professional front, Bupa's support in his journey toward becoming a Chartered Accountant has been pivotal. Regular training sessions focused on soft skills further enhance his capabilities, preparing him for a dynamic and challenging financial landscape.

On a personal front, a benefit for Henry is being able to move to London. “I grew up in the countryside and wanted to move into the city, here I can live in London and benefit from all the experience of my colleagues. I am enjoying the busy London pubs, there is a lot going on!”

Encouraging others to consider a similar role at Bupa, Henry shared “Bupa’s commitment to learning and development, the vibrant office environment, supportive colleagues, and growth opportunities make for an ideal workplace for those seeking a holistic and fulfilling start to their career.”
