Parental leave

  • Birth parent (maternity) or adoption leave of up to 52 weeks, irrespective of your length of service. In Bupa UK Insurance, your first 13 weeks’ leave is paid at basic pay. Your next eight weeks are paid at half your basic pay or, if you have more than two years’ service (at your qualifying week), you’ll receive 13 weeks paid at half your basic pay. These payments are inclusive of statutory maternity or adoption pay entitlement and you won’t need to repay this if you don’t return to Bupa.
  • A ‘welcome back’ bonus of £1250 paid after you return from birth parent (maternity) or adoption leave if you have more than two years’ service (at your qualifying week). This isn’t repayable if you subsequently leave the business.
  • Co-parent (paternity) leave of up to two weeks if you have 26 weeks’ continuous service (at your qualifying week or, for adoptive parents, the week you’re officially notified that you and/or your partner are notified by an adoption agency that you’ve/they’ve been matched with a child).
  • The option of up to 18 weeks’ unpaid parental leave, with a maximum of four weeks in a rolling 12-month period per child. Available once you have one years’ service and until your child/children reach the age of 18.
  • The option to bring your birth parent (maternity) or adoption leave to an end and share up to 50 weeks’ leave with your partner via shared parental leave. Available in the first year after becoming a parent if you have 26 weeks’ continuous service (eligibility is also dependent on employment and earnings criteria relating to your partner).
