Employee Spotlight:
Demi

(3 minute read)

Dive into the world of Demi, a former IT Graduate and now a permanent employee of Bupa’s Cyber Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT). Her journey from an IT Graduate to a Cyber Security Analyst paints a vivid picture of her tech-driven quest to ensure online safety. At Bupa, she's found a home that resonates with her values and ambitions, where dedication, innovation, and well-being intertwine seamlessly.

Demi’s role involves meticulous work, which includes taking tickets from Service Now (Internal cyber ticketing platform working across multiple business units) and reviewing malicious activity, spam, and threatening cyber activities. With utmost diligence, she dives into investigations and resolutions, ensuring Bupa's digital environment remains secure.

Joining Bupa in September 2021 as an IT Graduate, she was able to experience a variety of roles, exploring "testing" and “service” to "digital content," all within the supportive framework of Bupa's graduate programme.

“The Graduate programme has allowed me to develop my transferable skills; personally, I had built upon my interpersonal communication, transparency and resourcefulness while working, exploring my ideas and experiencing the full process of bringing them to life.”

Always keen to continue her studies and learning, Demi shared that one of the factors for choosing Bupa as her employer, was down to their opportunities to continue her studies alongside work. This was evident during the Grad scheme, and more recently for her studies for an MSc in Digital & Technology solutions, where Bupa have assisted in supporting her to complete with distinction.

Bupa's values aligned perfectly with Demi's aspirations, “With Bupa’s main mission of ‘Helping people live longer, healthier, happier lives’ – I knew I wanted to be a part of that as it supports my morals and what I stand for. I knew of Bupa’s global appeal, originally from Greece and it was a goal of mine to work for them and here I am." Her journey to Bupa was a testament to perseverance and alignment with Bupa's mission of improving lives through technology.

One of Demi's notable projects involved revolutionising testing functionalities with automation. Collaborating with fellow IT Grads, she identified inefficiencies and brought them to light to the team: "Now they have begun to create an automated system to better business performance." Additionally, her contributions to automating various forms within ServiceNow demonstrated her dedication to enhancing operational efficiency.

Demi's commitment to her role stems from the dynamic nature of her work: "I love the fact, that every day is different, no task is the same when I am engaging with various departments to bring technology solutions to life." When asked about how she sees her role fitting into Bupa she told us “By keeping the systems healthy, we keep the organisation healthy and in turn keep our customers healthy.”

Her advice for those considering a Grad programme at Bupa "If you want to be part of something different and innovative you have to apply!" Bupa's investment in training and nurturing the best talent, coupled with its focus on customer-centric technology, sets it apart as an employer of choice.

Outside work, Demi finds solace in family moments, spending time with her Husband and baby Daughter. She also enjoys travelling and with a full bookshelf of books waiting to be read, she loves nothing more than sitting on the beach, switching off and getting lost in a great story.

Employee Spotlight:
Quincy

(2 minute read)

From Bermuda, Hatti, America and now in the UK, Quincy has worked within clinical settings across the world which has given him respected knowledge before joining us at Cromwell Hospital as Modern Matron for Oncology and Chemotherapy Day Unit (CDU).

His interest in Oncology was influenced from his nursing practice in Bermuda, where he followed onto complete his Oncology certificate in America.

On recommendation of the great services Cromwell had provided to a professor of his, “as soon as a vacancy became available, I knew I had to apply and haven’t looked back”.

Since joining Cromwell, Quincy has achieved his teacher training and is now studying a Harvard University diploma in ‘Safety Quality Informatics and Leadership’ alongside his work. “Learning new theories and understanding different styles & methods to aid learning will better my leadership and my team and facilitate my role”.

Through his independent studies, Quincy expressed, “my line manager has been very supportive, granting me time to complete the course and offering 1-2-1 sessions to outline actions and move forward. Their encouragement makes me want to continuously improve myself.”

As a keen traveller Quincy told us “Coming to the UK, I was able to travel and explore more of Europe, as it is so close by. Most recently I have visited France on my annual leave and a memorable destination for me is Florence in Italy.”

When discussing his love for Oncology, Quincy said “the patients are unique and very different to surgical and medical patients. The nature of their situations allows us to form relationships with them, their family and their wider families. It means a lot to know you are helping them all get through what can be a difficult experience.”

Even though Quincy is now Matron, he told us “I will always spend time with my patients, I believe it's important for their experience and journey with us at Cromwell”.

Recently, Quincy has helped lead the Oncology team for their Gold standard and ISO accreditation, “This was a learning experience and I was able to research about the auditing progress and really focused on how we need to improve our hospital and the strategies behind it. We were so pleased of the outcome, and it’s been a great encouragement for the team.

Being proud of his work and team at Cromwell, Quincy shared “The energy at Cromwell feels like a family, walking into the hospital everyone says hello and it’s a lovely environment to be in.”

Outside of work, you’ll find Quincy playing tennis, cycling, or walking his dog Stanley the Maltipoo. He is also a keen Salsa dancer after completing virtual classes throughout the pandemic, he is very pleased to be back into partner dancing.
