Kieran

A passionate and dedicated Technology Graduate with a focus on data analysis, Kieran plays a crucial role within Bupa's Group Tech function. Working from our Bupa Place office in Manchester and occasionally from the comfort of his home, Kieran's journey at Bupa has been marked by growth, innovation, and a strong sense of purpose.
As a Graduate on our Technology programme, Kieran’s role revolves around transforming data into actionable insights. As he described it, he takes the data provided by people and uses his expertise to give it shape and meaning, “I make health happen by listening to customer data from around the world to inform Bupa's global IT strategies to better the business.”
Before joining Bupa, Kieran completed a Degree in Computer Science at Swansea University, delving into subjects like robotics and computer analysis. Kieran's curiosity and hands-on approach were evident from a young age where he shared an experience of receiving a Fujifilm Camera as a gift, deciding to take it apart, figured out how it worked and put it back together again! Impressive! Before his studies he also worked a summer placement in the US, as an Summer intern for a robotics company.
"I've always been very hands-on with IT and wanting to understand how it all works," Kieran emphasised. This passion led him to Bupa, where his values aligned with the company's mission. Amidst challenges related to mental health, choosing Bupa for his grad scheme became an obvious choice when he recognised through his work at Bupa, he would be able to maintain an important moral to him of “helping support people in their time of need.” Upon arriving, he found a supportive environment and teams, where he felt valued, and his contribution mattered.
One of Kieran's notable projects involves the e-building and development of the data aspects of the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) at Bupa. "I’ve been able to learn a lot about development pipelines and what it’s like to work ‘behind the scenes’ within Bupa. To see how the foundations are set up is interesting to me, and it allows me to see how everything ties into together," Kieran explains. Within his direct team, the focus is on building a data pipeline management tool, a project that underscores his commitment to improving processes and fostering effective collaboration across various Bupa projects. Through this project, Kieran is gaining invaluable insights into development pipelines and foundational aspects of the organisation, enriching his career experience.
"I really like meeting, speaking and learning about people in a professional prospective, but also like interacting to understanding their passions and perspectives.” To be able to work alongside talented tech professionals inspires him and fuels his own growth. An unforgettable memory involves presenting to Iñaki Ereño, Bupa's CEO, an early career achievement that showcased his capabilities and garnered praise.
When it comes to the future, Kieran envisions himself as a proficient data engineer, a path that Bupa is actively supporting through training and experience. He's also looking to become a Mental Health First Aider, an aspiration aligned with Bupa's commitment to holistic well-being.
Beyond his professional endeavours, Kieran is a multifaceted individual. He's an avid builder, enjoying Lego projects, recently completing a Lancaster Bomber. He's also an adventurer, with a desire for surfing, swimming, and windsurfing. Kieran's love for photography allows him to capture the beauty he finds in the world. His collection of pins from his travels tells the tale of his explorations, including a recent escapade to California. And as an adrenaline junkie, he's even taken his mom skydiving!
Kieran's story at Bupa reflects growth, resilience, and a drive to contribute meaningfully to the organisation's mission. His journey demonstrates that Bupa is a place where passion and innovation are nurtured.
