Bupa Apprentices

Meet some of our
Apprentices

We're so proud of our apprentices who challenged themselves and succeeded on their development journey.

Last year, nearly 1,700 colleagues were studying for an apprenticeship at the same time as managing their day job - that's 5% of all our employees. We were also very proud to place 31 in the UK's top 100 Apprenticeship Employers.

Hear from a few of our brilliant apprentices, past and present, who share their experience of managing their studies and work...

Member Service Advisor Programme, UK Insurance

Having spent almost 10 years working in Childcare, I was eager to try something new and develop my career but had no idea where to start. I found the opportunity with Bupa, of working a full-time job whilst also enhancing my knowledge of the customer service field through an apprenticeship. This opportunity was a perfect introduction into a new career path as I have spent time training and building my knowledge for this specific role as well as working at understanding customer service from a wider perspective through the course. The team has been incredibly supportive in helping me learn and grow and I can’t wait to progress further into the business with my new skills.

Senior Financial Customer Service Specialist L3

Since starting my role at BUPA in 2019, I have always been keen to challenge myself and progress within the business. In 2022, when I saw an advertisement for the Senior Financial Services Customer Adviser apprenticeship, I was eager to apply. I knew that it would be a great opportunity for me to be able to study towards an industry recognised qualification whilst working within in my role.  Throughout the year and a half that it took to complete the apprenticeship, I was able to develop my skills whilst gaining a great deal of knowledge and understanding about the financial services industry and where BUPA sits within it. I am grateful for all of the support that was provided by my tutors and my manager who was able to make sure that I had enough time to study each week.

Senior Financial Customer Service Specialist

I’ve worked at Bupa since 2008, so I do know a little about customer service. I wanted to make what I do official, so a professional qualification in the work that I do was a no brainer.

I decided with the backing and support of my manager to do the “Senior Financial Customer Services Apprenticeship” course. The in-depth knowledge I have gained has been second to none. I haven’t studied for over 20 years, so it did take a little time and that extra support that I found in the leadership team to help me through this, I’m not going to say it was easy as it was a lot of work and dedication, however it’s 110% worth it, I feel my values within Bupa has really stood out being Brave, Caring and Responsible.

Bupa Aspiring Leader Programme

For me the best thing about participating in the programme is expanding your knowledge, developing your skills and also challenge yourself. The course takes you out of your comfort zone, give you opportunity to learn new skills and also put your learning into practice. It allows you to work on your weaknesses and strengths, you can gain so much confidence from the course which will hopefully expand your carer and Bupa or wider.

Bupa Aspiring Leader Programme

I found the programme hugely rewarding. When I started the course, I wasn’t in a leadership role and had never managed people. However, found that I could still apply lots of the content to my day-to-day role, particularly around people skills and relationship building, such as the use of active listening and emotional intelligence. I enjoyed the challenge of putting theory-based learning into practice in a real scenario. My PDE was hugely supportive, offering practical advice and guidance without being overbearing. The group learning sessions were hugely valuable, as they gave me an opportunity to collaborate with colleagues across Bupa, in different parts of the business, who I wouldn’t normally come into contact with day-to-day.
