Shifts: 0 hour contract (Monday-Friday 08:30am- 17:30hrs)

This is an opportunity for an enthusiastic Bank Adult Speech and Language Therapist to become a part of our adult team working primarily with patients who have dysphagia and /or dysphonia. You will provide highly specialist and evidence-based assessments and interventions to both outpatient and inpatients who present with swallowing, communication and voice difficulties arising from various conditions.

As a Bank Adult Speech and Language Therapist you will approach will be person centred and you will be working closely with members of the MDT including dietitians, clinical nurse specialists, the medical team, SLT other Therapy colleagues and the wider MDT. You will participate in service development, governance and quality assurance activities within your remit. You will ensure clear and efficient communication, whether verbal, non-verbal or written, both in expression and active listening, to facilitate comprehension of information.

What you'll do:

• Provide a high-quality Speech and Language Therapy Service to a caseload of adult patients presenting with swallowing, communication and/or voice difficulties. You will receive referrals for both inpatients including AICU and outpatients.
• To have proven experience in the management of clients requiring AICU level care including ventilation and tracheostomy care and weaning.
• Desirably offer specialist assessments and interventions to clients with Head and Neck cancers, assist with the development of Head and Neck service at Cromwell Hospital and support other SLT colleagues in developing their skills and competencies.
• Desirably be able to analyse and report Analysing, and reporting instrumental assessments (VFS/FEES), and to be able to assist colleagues in developing their skills in these assessments as required.
• To obtain informed, valid consent on an ongoing basis which endeavours to keep the client involved in their own health care plan, this includes education to support ongoing management.
• Provide assessment and implement highly specialist SLT treatment and programmes of care, writing reports, reflecting specialist knowledge and maintain accurate, comprehensive and timely patient treatment records.
• To use specialist knowledge to screen all new referrals and allocate priority for intervention based on client need.
• Use a holistic, client-centred approach, gathering and synthesising information from other professionals and relatives/carers, to ensure that intervention packages are best suited to each patient.
• Provide expert intervention demonstrating clinical effectiveness by use of evidence-based practice and outcome measures, whilst adapting practice to meet individual circumstance and context, weighing up complex clinical management decisions in the context of conflicting clinical indicators.
• Liaise with other clinicians and external agencies as appropriate to ensure the effective co-ordination of the patient treatment and on-going aftercare and advise Hospital staff on the delivery of the IDDSI framework.
• To be able to provide open communication with all parties involved in patient care and in relation to the SLT service to further develop the service and resolve any issues or complaints expediently.
• To provide specialist input into policies, protocols and standard operating procedures regarding the management of patients seen by the Speech and Language Therapy Team and wider service.
• Comply with confidentiality policies as set out by CH, HCPC and the RCSLT.

What you'll bring:

• Speech & Language Therapy Degree.
• HCPC registration.
• Competent with Dysphagia and to independently hold a voice caseload.
• Extensive experience in assessment and management of dysphagia, voice and communication is someone with Head and Neck cancer is desirable.
• Demonstrated experience within an adult inpatients and outpatients, including managing complex and busy caseloads.
• Experience working in an AICU environment including ventilated patient, tracheostomy care and weaning.
• Evidence of participation in governance and quality assurance activities.
• Competent in carrying out, analysing, and reporting instrumental assessments (VF/FEES)
• Master's or other advanced professional training and qualifications. (Desirable.)
