37.5 hours per week (6-month FTC)

Shifts: Monday-Friday 08:00am-16:00hrs)

Paying from £54,320 per annum depending on experience and qualifications

As Clinical Nurse Educator you will participate in the development and delivery of an educational strategy and programme that promotes a high-quality clinical service.

Develop up-to-date specific clinical nursing competencies, guidance, and assessments for all levels of nursing for the development of skills and knowledge within the medical services inclusive of the cardiac and medical wards and the dialysis unit.

As a Clinical Nurse Educator, you will ensure that high quality nursing standards and practices are maintained and sustained within the service. You will initiate practice development as necessary to ensure best practice considering current research, national recommendations, guidance, and developments. Support the use and development of audit to identify and then support developments in care. Ensure that all patient care is guided by up-to-date unit policies and protocols.

What you'll do:

As a Clinical Nurse Educator, you will be part of delivery training and education support to a variety of disciplines within Cardiac/Medical and Cromwell Hospital. You will focus on building the capacity and capability of nursing workforce through the delivery of high-quality care, safe and effective clinical teaching and learning programmes within the medical care division and to manage the educational requirements of the nursing team within the medical speciality.

  • Working with the Lead for Practice Development and the medical floor team consisting of the Medical Ward, Acute Admission Unit (AAU), the Cardiac Ward and the Dialysis Team, the post holder will work alongside nurses and other healthcare practitioners to develop the high-quality care expected at Cromwell Hospital.
  • Assist in identifying and defining areas for improvement and develop targeted teaching and learning activities to facilitate improvement.
  • Participate in the review of the Induction and Mandatory clinical education programme in collaboration with the Lead for Practice Development, the wider education team and Director of Nursing.
  • Be responsive to needs in the clinical practice highlighted by complaints or incidents or National Guidance designing and delivering clinical learning programmes and/ or create clinical learning opportunities as required for an effective patient responsive service.
  • Working closely with the Matrons and ward leaders develop and support the developing and delivery of mandatory and speciality required development skills and programmes to support the creation and to maintain a highly qualified workforce to deliver best care.
  • Seek and develop networks locally, regionally, and nationally with peer groups to support the sharing of best practice.
  • Ensure professional consistency throughout the department by maintaining a consistent approach when supporting the management of nursing performance and competence.
  • Develop competencies for all levels of nursing staff, including clinical supervision, direct observational procedure signs off, clinical work records and programmes to support local clinical induction and role development.
  • Ensure the division has sufficient staff competent and registered as sigh off mentors to support the provision of nurse training standards.
  • Support mentoring and the performance review process and implement effective development plans as required.
  • Work collaboratively with other Clinical educator roles within Cromwell Hospital to ensure training is available for all.
  • Work within a large multidisciplinary team to support targeted educational and development programmes within Medical/Cardiac and for all disciplines.

What you'll bring:

  • Registered General Nurse and NMC PIN required.
  • Postgraduate Teaching qualification. (Desirable)
  • Educated Degree Level.
  • Evidence of structured classroom, clinical teaching or bedside teaching.
  • Nursing experience required in a Cardiac Department/Ward/Unit.
  • Mentorship / Practice Assessor (SSSA training)
  • Pleasant and cheerful manner, being supportive and approachable.
