Role Overview:

The Triage Nurse is responsible for delivering high-quality, patient-centred care at the first point of clinical contact across Cromwell Hospital, Basinghall Clinic, London Medical, New Victoria Hospital, and other associated hospital and outpatient centres. Operating within a multidisciplinary team, the post holder will assess, prioritise, and direct patients according to clinical urgency, ensuring safe and timely access to appropriate services.

Reporting to the Clinical Services Manager (Connected Care), the Triage Nurse will combine clinical expertise with strong communication skills to support seamless patient pathways, uphold clinical standards, and contribute to operational efficiency. This role is pivotal in promoting a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement, underpinning the delivery of exceptional patient experience and clinical outcomes.

What you'll do:

  • Deliver high quality, safe and clinically effective health care over the telephone.
  • Review and clinically assess new referrals to appropriate pathway.
  • Complete and document all triage decisions using the standardised triage Form.
  • To recognise and work within scope of practice seeking support where appropriate.
  • Analyse and critically evaluate a range of information during the telephone consultation and to provide accurate advice and health information to patients in order to empower and enable them to act upon the advice given.
  • Act independently within the constraints of professional and organisational policies and structures.
  • Identify and use information sources to support and underpin clinical decision making.
  • To work independently, taking responsibility and accountability for managing own workload, risk assessment and risk management.
  • Refer to other clinical colleagues as necessary for advice whilst maintaining accountability and responsibility for all decisions made in relation to your clinical assessment.
  • Assist the Clinical Services Manager with operational requirements in the delivery of a consistent, safe service in all aspects of the patient journey whilst instilling a culture of customer service throughout the nursing team.
  • Ensure clinical decisions align with Bupa's clinical governance standards and pathway criteria.

What you'll bring:

  • An active Adult General Adult NMC pin
  • Staff nurse experience working in an outpatient's department, oncology, gynaecology, gastrointestinal unit, urology or A&E department.
  • Experience in clinical audit.
  • Experience in the development of policies and protocols to support best practice.
  • Experience in risk assessments, handling complaints and incidents.
  • Teaching/assessing qualification.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
