13 shifts per month, days/nights/weekends (08:00-20.30, 20:00-08:30) Ward Based

Role Overview

To deliver chemotherapy and systemic anti-cancer treatment therapy nursing services to patients for Oncology patients and to deputise for the charge nurse of the chemotherapy day unit when required.

As an Oncology Team Leader, you'll have our patients at the heart of each decision. Stepping up in the absence of the person who has continuing responsibility you'll co-ordinate department activities and participate in clinical audits to ensure the smooth running of the department.

You'll assess patient needs and develop, implement, and evaluate high quality and compassionate programmes of care. You'll have the support of some of the UK's leading Oncology consultants and state of the art technology alongside dedicated time for your development through training such as the Chemotherapy Passport competency (SACT).

How you'll help us make health happen.

  • Provide specialist nursing advice and support to patients, their families and other healthcare professionals following diagnosis and through all stages of treatment.

  • Ensure continuity of a high standard of evidence-based nursing care for patients undergoing systemic anti-cancer treatment therapy, assessing health, health related and nursing needs of patients, their families, and other cares by identifying and initiating appropriate steps for effective care.

  • Work autonomously whilst providing clinical leadership, ensuring all patients have an accurate plan of care, which reflects the assessment undertaken and incorporates the issues and recommendations made ensuring clear documentation in the patient's records.

  • Fulfil the rule of mentor, providing peer support to staff working within the Chemotherapy Day Unit/Oncology Ward.

  • Comply with measures to actively manage and reduce risk to patients. Ensuring the formal reporting and recording of adverse incidents.

  • Participate in the evaluation of the service in terms of clinical effectiveness, clinical excellence, and cost benefit.

  • Identify areas of practice that require review or adaption to meet the changing needs of patients.

  • Follow current national guidelines on SACT therapy.

Key Skills / Qualifications

  • NMC Registration

  • Previous Oncology experience

  • SACT Training/Passport (essential)

  • Previous team management/leadership experience (desirable)

  • Able to work independently.

  • Evidence of continuous professional development.
