Role Overview

As an Innovation Insights and Research Lead, you will be the central hub for collecting, organising, and synthesising insights and research from across BGIUK and externally to drive evolution of priority projects in our innovation programme. By leveraging new and existing insights, you will directly inform thinking on key innovation initiatives, drive strategic decisions, and enhance the organisation's ability to adapt and thrive in a competitive environment, across short, medium and long term horizonsYour role will ensure that data-driven insights and research are seamlessly integrated into our innovation efforts, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and creativity.

Key Responsibilities

The accountabilities and responsibilities of the role will vary according to the specific assignment(s) at any one time:-

  • Drive informed decision-making by consolidating research, insights, and data from cross functional teams, departments, and external sources to inform strategic innovation projects.

  • Generate actionable ideas by designing and coordinating innovation workshops, brainstorming sessions, and focus groups, drawing on human-centred design and other evidence-based frameworks to inform structure and outcome of such insight-gathering activities.

  • Drive collaboration between internal insight teams and external agencies to accelerate insight-driven innovation within BGIUK.

  • Identify and take action on strategic opportunities by analysing and synthesising information to uncover trends, opportunities, and challenges, thereby informing the innovation program and product development portfolio.

  • Facilitate stakeholder understanding by creating comprehensive reports, presentations, and dashboards that effectively communicate findings, immersing them in insight to inspire.

  • Maximize ROI by understanding research requirements from priority growth areas and influencing stakeholders to ensure research aligns with business and customer needs.

  • Contribute to upkeep and development of a centralised insights repository to support the BGIUK, ensuring easy access to valuable information.

  • Stay ahead of the curve by proactively monitoring industry trends, competitor activities, and emerging technologies, taking the lead on establishing new relationships to tap into insight from academic partners, start-up communities and accelerators.

  • Build new relationships with innovation teams around the business and identify gaps in insight and data to drive potential new areas for exploration and innovation.

  • Leverage advanced AI technologies to transform research within BGIUK, supporting the business to deliver deeper insights with increased speed and efficiency.

  • Lead development of a culture of evidence-based innovation by championing the use of insights in decision-making processes.

  • Ensure project success by meeting stakeholder needs, keeping requirements within scope and budget, and ensuring the agency delivers against the brief.

Qualifications, skills and experience

The role holder is expected to have the following qualification(s), skills and experience:

  • Substantial experience of supporting innovation programme growth and product strategy development.

  • Knowledge of agile methodologies, human-centred design principles and evidence-based frameworks to inform innovation design.

  • Degree and/or experience to similar standard in a relevant field such as market research, behavioural science, data science, product design or a related discipline.

  • Research, analytical and commercial acumen is required for making recommendations regarding research and analysis to provide actionable insight.

  • Influencing skills to ensure the customer is at the heart of business decisions, and to manage effective agency relationships.

  • Excellent planning and organisational skills, with the ability to successfully manage and maintain multiple continuous projects

  • Proficient in data visualisation tools (e.g., PowerBI), reporting software, and research methodologies.

  • Excellent IT skills to include PowerPoint, Excel and Word

  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills for engaging with diverse teams.
