We make health happen

At Bupa, we're here to help people live longer, healthier, happier lives – and make a better world. As a global healthcare leader with no shareholders, our focus is always on our customers and the communities we serve.

This is a unique opportunity to join us in a newly created role as Head of AI Governance. You'll lead the way in shaping how we use artificial intelligence responsibly across the organisation. As AI becomes more central to how we deliver care and improve outcomes, your work will ensure we do so ethically, transparently and in line with our values.

You'll be joining a business that's serious about innovation – and equally serious about doing the right thing. This role is your chance to build something from the ground up, influencing how AI is governed across Bupa and helping us stay ahead of regulatory and ethical expectations.

Key Responsibilities

As Head of AI Governance, you'll:

  • Lead the development and implementation of Bupa's Responsible AI Framework, embedding ethical principles and best practices into our AI strategy.
  • Chair the High-Risk AI Committee, overseeing the assessment and management of high-risk AI projects.
  • Design and implement risk management strategies for AI activities, ensuring alignment with Bupa's broader risk frameworks.
  • Monitor and respond to regulatory developments, including GDPR, the EU AI Act, and other emerging standards.
  • Establish and regularly review ethical guidelines for AI development and deployment.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data governance managers and AI specialists, to ensure consistent and responsible AI practices across the business.
  • Develop scalable tools, processes and methodologies to support the growth of AI capabilities while maintaining strong governance.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who's passionate about responsible innovation and ready to lead from the front. You'll bring:

  • Proven experience in AI governance, risk management, and ethical AI practices.
  • A strong understanding of AI technologies, frameworks, and the evolving regulatory landscape.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills – you'll be confident engaging with technical and non-technical stakeholders alike.
  • Experience developing and implementing governance frameworks and policies.
  • A collaborative mindset and the ability to influence across a complex organisation.
  • A commitment to doing the right thing – for our customers, our people, and the wider world.

Benefits

Our benefits are designed to make health happen for our people. Viva is our global wellbeing programme and includes all aspects of our health – from mental and physical, to financial, social and environmental wellbeing. We support flexible working and have a range of family-friendly benefits.

Joining Bupa in this role you will receive the following benefits and more:

  • 25 days holiday, increasing through length of service, with the option to buy or sell
  • Enhanced pension and life insurance
  • Private medical insurance
  • Access to our health assessments and dental insurance
  • Discounts on Bupa products and services
  • Support for professional development and career growth
