We make health happen

Working in our Group function you'll play a key part in helping our customer facing colleagues deliver exceptional standards of customer service and patient care not just in the UK but around the globe. You'll have an opportunity to do work that matters. Making a difference to the lives of our customers each and every day, by helping shape the strategic direction of our business around the world.

The Data Governance Architect will be accountable for transforming and evolving the Group Functions' data architecture across Finance, People, Procurement, Risk, Audit and Clinical, through data strategy and data architecture definition.

How you'll help us make health happen:

Data Architecture & Modelling

  • Define and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models using tools like Erwin Data Modeler and Erwin Data Intelligence Suite.

  • Lead the design of data architecture aligned to enterprise architecture

  • Ensure data flows, integrations, and lineage are documented, governed, and understood

  • Partner with solution architects and tech leads to align data models with application and infrastructure layers.

Business & Data Architecture

  • The role holder will partner with senior management and architects to optimise value streams, drive data transformation and identify new data capabilities.

  • Translate business needs (and is comfortable with eliciting the business architecture if required) into structured data requirements and blueprints

  • Work across business domains to understand pain points and aspirations, shaping data solutions that enable real-world impact.

  • Articulate the “so what” of architecture to non-technical audiences—using stories, not just standards.

Data Management & Governance

  • Challenge the status quo of data management, and value delivery.

  • Lead on metadata, lineage, and classification efforts.

  • Promote data accountability and transparency across the organisation.

  • Support adoption of frameworks

Leadership & Data COE

  • Build and run a high-performing Data COE— coaching, and inspiring a team of data & technical analysts

  • Define KPIs and OKRs for data maturity and business value.

  • Be the voice of data across forums—from strategy sessions to architecture boards.

What you'll bring:

  • Proven experience in data architecture, with solid understanding of both business and technical domains.

  • Excellent storytelling and stakeholder engagement skills—you can connect data to business outcomes with ease.

  • Experience designing and implementing data governance frameworks and processes.

  • Strong leadership capability with experience managing cross-functional teams or COEs.

  • Familiarity with KPIs for data management, architecture, and business alignment.

  • Ability to use or guide work in tools like ArchiMate, Erwin Data Modeler, Erwin DI Suite, or equivalents.

  • Experience of leading architects to deliver data strategy and data architecture.

  • Comfortable engaging with senior management to shape strategy/proposals and leading engineering on detailed solution design.

  • Demonstrable experience and knowledge of data architecture, ideally with a technical Computing degree and industry recognised qualifications.
