We're looking for an Assistant Accountant to join our Finance team at King Edward VII's Hospital. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is early in their finance career and keen to build technical accounting expertise within a supportive and collaborative environment.

As an Assistant Accountant, you'll support key financial processes that help ensure accurate reporting, strong financial controls and effective decision-making across the business. You'll gain valuable exposure to month-end activities, reconciliations, audit support, VAT processes, financial reporting and continuous improvement initiatives, all while developing your professional accounting knowledge.

This role would suit someone who is curious, motivated to learn and working towards a professional accounting qualification, with aspirations to develop a long-term career in finance

How you'll help us make health happen

As an Assistant Accountant, you will:

  • Support month-end close activities and assist with delivering accurate financial reporting.

  • Prepare accounting journals, including accruals and prepayments.

  • Assist with maintaining accounting records and supporting documentation.

  • Raise purchase orders on behalf of the Finance team.

  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and investigate any reconciling items.

  • Complete daily bank reconciliations and support cash control activities.

  • Support VAT return preparation and related activities.

  • Provide cover for key fixed asset and capital expenditure activities where required.

  • Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules and supporting evidence.

  • Maintain finance process documentation and support governance requirements.

  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, reporting and efficiency across the Finance function.

  • Actively participate in learning and development opportunities to build technical knowledge and professional expertise

Key Skills/Qualifications required for this role

We're looking for an Assistant Accountant who is eager to learn, detail-focused and committed to building a successful career in finance.

  • Previous experience in a finance or accounting role is essential

  • Experience studying towards AAT, ACCA, CIMA or an equivalent professional qualification is required, please ensure this is included on your application

  • Strong numerical and analytical skills.

  • Good understanding of accounting principles and double-entry bookkeeping.

  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills and confidence working with financial data.

  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.

  • A proactive approach with the confidence to ask questions and seek solutions.

  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to meet deadlines.

  • A collaborative mindset and willingness to support colleagues across the wider Finance team.

Experience within healthcare, regulated environments or using NetSuite would be advantageous but is not essential.
