We make health happen

At Bupa, our purpose is simple: helping people live longer, healthier, happier lives and making a better world. As a healthcare provider and insurer, we're committed to delivering high-quality care while continually improving the safety, experience and outcomes of the people we serve.

We're looking for a Director of Clinical Governance to lead the clinical governance agenda across Bupa's UK Insurance and Healthcare businesses (BGIUK). This is a highly influential leadership role that sits at the heart of patient safety, quality improvement and healthcare regulation.

Working closely with the Chief Medical Officer, clinical governance leaders and senior stakeholders across the business, you'll help shape how we deliver safe, effective and person-centred healthcare. You'll bring together expertise from across our provision and insurance businesses, helping create a culture where learning, improvement and innovation thrive.

This is an exciting opportunity to influence healthcare quality at scale, lead strategic change and help make sure our clinical governance framework continues to support excellent outcomes for customers, patients and colleagues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the clinical governance strategy across BGIUK, covering both healthcare provision and insurance businesses.
  • Promote a positive culture of learning, improvement and patient safety.
  • Act as the senior clinical governance contact for internal and external stakeholders, including regulators and governance committees.
  • Build strong relationships with national healthcare leaders and regulatory bodies.
  • Develop and embed best-practice approaches to quality, safety, clinical risk and governance.
  • Lead and support a network of clinical governance experts across BGIUK.
  • Use clinical data and insights to identify trends, reduce risk and drive improvements.
  • Oversee the Market Unit clinical risk register and report key risks to senior stakeholders.
  • Chair the BGIUK Clinical Governance Committee and provide assurance reporting to governance forums.
  • Oversee the management and learning from significant incidents and serious complaints.
  • Support the safe adoption of innovation and new technologies through effective governance processes.
  • Lead, develop and inspire the clinical governance team.
  • Provide expert advice on healthcare regulation, compliance, clinical quality and risk management.
  • Deputise for the Chief Medical Officer when required.

What We're Looking For

  • Current registration as a healthcare professional (Ideally from a nursing background).
  • At least five years' clinical practice experience.
  • Significant experience in senior clinical governance, quality, risk or compliance roles.
  • A relevant clinical, governance, risk or healthcare qualification.
  • Strong knowledge of UK healthcare regulation and governance requirements.
  • Experience working within complex, highly regulated healthcare environments.
  • Excellent leadership and stakeholder management skills.
  • The ability to influence and challenge constructively at executive level.
  • Strong analytical skills, with experience using data to support decision-making and quality improvement.
  • Experience leading teams and driving cultural change.
  • Knowledge of healthcare services across hospital, community, dental, care or insurance settings would be beneficial.
  • Understanding of risk management frameworks and governance assurance processes.
