The cardiac unit manager is a new role and will lead and oversee all activity and operations within the new cardiac ward at the Cromwell Hospital.

This is an excellent opportunity for nurse with proven clinical expertise, leadership experience, and demonstrable background in cardiac/thoracic medicine and surgery.

They will manage the nurses across their areas, supporting the Clinical Team Leaders to provide safe staffing levels and high-quality nursing care. They will be role models to their staff and be highly visible in their areas ensuring a high level of professionalism is maintained.

Reporting to the modern matron for medicine, the cardiac unit manager is an influential role and will be easily identifiable, accessible and a key figure to whom patients and their families can turn to for assistance, advice and support.  You will support initiatives to improve the services to our customers, and make sure there is complete adherence to clinical compliance and regulatory/governance requirements as relevant for your specialisation.

How you'll help us make health happen.

  • Provide strong leadership all teams within the cardiac ward and ensure senior clinical presence on the ward/unit.

  • Manage quality improvement initiatives to drive up high quality clinical care.

  • Manage the audit process to improve patient care delivery and implement tools to improve the quality of care, ensuring that staff receive feedback and implement action as directed.

  • Ensure that Clinical team leaders identify poor performance, manage conduct issues and provide appropriate support to individuals as required. Manage formal HR processes.

  • Manage teams effectively, delegating appropriately and holding staff to account for the delivery of specific objectives and targets, maximising their performance through regular performance coaching and review, reflective practice and ensuring staff meet the required standards in their current job whilst developing their skills and knowledge.

  • Work with the Matron in the financial management of the service being aware of budgets and working within them.

  • Investigate complex incidents & complaints and identify and implement corrective action.

  • Manage the delivery of a consistent, safe service in all aspects of the patient journey and instil a culture of customer service throughout the nursing team.

  • Foster a culture within the wards that ensures consistent compliance with internal policy and external regulatory standards, through monitoring and driving improvements on clinical indicators for nursing.

  • Facilitate the cascade of information as a 2-way flow by ensuring awareness of Directorate and Hospital initiatives, support staff discussion and respond to feedback.

  • Manage compliance of safeguarding and ensure the correct procedure are followed.

Key Skills / Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse Adult/ RN (essential)

  • Previous cardiac experience (essential)

  • Proven leadership/management experience in a healthcare environment (essential)

  • Significant understanding of ILS/ALS

  • Exceptional communication, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
