We make health happen

At Bupa, we're here to help people live longer, healthier, happier lives - and make a better world. As a global healthcare leader with no shareholders, our focus is always on our customers. That means we reinvest our profits into better care, better experiences, and better outcomes.

As an Actuarial Pricing Analyst, you'll play a key role in shaping the future of our UK Insurance business. You'll help us make smart, data-driven decisions that ensure our products are fair, competitive, and sustainable - all while keeping our customers at the heart of what we do.

Key Responsibilities

You'll be part of a collaborative actuarial team, working on pricing and analytics for one or more of our health insurance or subscription products. Your day-to-day will include:

  • Analysing historical performance to identify trends and recommend pricing actions
  • Modelling the future impact of pricing changes and presenting your insights to senior stakeholders
  • Supporting the development and pricing of new products and benefit features
  • Conducting investigations into areas like customer retention, competitor pricing, and long-term profitability
  • Using advanced analytical techniques to extract, refine and interpret data
  • Documenting your work in line with Technical Actuarial Standards
  • Collaborating with teams across Sales, Finance, Product, Clinical Policy and Healthcare Analytics
  • Working closely with our Actuarial Technical Hub to understand claims inflation and its impact

You'll be supported by a Senior Pricing Actuary but will also have the autonomy to lead your own projects and contribute to strategic decisions.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who's curious, analytical, and passionate about using data to make a difference. Ideally, you'll bring:

  • Experience in pricing within general insurance or health markets
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills
  • Practical knowledge of modelling techniques such as Generalised Linear Models, machine learning, or price optimisation
  • Proficiency in tools like SAS or SQL (experience with Emblem, Radar or R is a bonus)
  • Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills
  • Strong communication skills - you can explain complex ideas clearly and simply
  • Progress towards an IFoA qualification (or equivalent) is desirable, but not essential if you have the right technical experience

Above all, you care about doing the right thing for our customers and making health happen.

Benefits

Our benefits are designed to make health happen for our people. Viva is our global wellbeing programme and includes all aspects of our health - from mental and physical, to financial, social and environmental wellbeing. We support flexible working and have a range of family-friendly benefits.

Joining Bupa in this role you will receive the following benefits and more:

  • 25 days holiday, increasing through length of service, with the option to buy or sell
  • Enhanced pension and life insurance
  • Discounts on Bupa products and services
  • Access to our health and wellbeing services, including mental health support
  • Opportunities for career development and progression

Life as a Placement Student

Rhitik joined our Actuarial team for his placement year in 2020 and will be returning in 2022 as part of our Graduate programme. We caught up with him at the end of his Placement year to find out how he got on, and why he chose to stay with Bupa once he’s completed his studies.
