Village Manager

Responsibilities and Activities

​​​​​​Financial

  • To assist with the preparation of the annual budgets and targets for the village and to subsequently accept ownership and responsibility for the delivery of trading performance in line with such  budget and targets
  • To secure and increase the profitability of the village
  • To monitor the performance of the village through proper accounting and reporting to the Operations Director, including monitoring occupancy levels, fee levels,aged debt and expenditure and agreeing fee rates, payment terms and funding, where appropriate

Operational

  • To contribute to, understand and be familiar with the existing strategy and
  • objectives of Richmond Care Villages and play an active role as a Village Manager
  • of the company
  • To provide leadership within the village and direct the village’s business activities by over-seeing the day-to-day management of the village and participating fully in all
  • internal and external public relations and marketing events
  • To play the leading role in securing new business for the village, taking
  • responsibility for marketing, pricing, tendering and establishing a secure customer base and close links with all key business influencers and referrers
  • To maintain and nurture a good relationship with all residents, families and customers of the business
  • To take responsibility for all health and safety requirements and needs within the village and ensure adherence to the appropriate legislation, including the productionand recording of appropriate risk assessments
  • To ensure that all correspondence, documentation and administration is kept up-todate,recorded and properly filed
  • To liaise and negotiate and maintain good working relationships with medical andnon-medical staff in external organisations, eg CQC, social services, voluntary groups and the private sector
  • To implement new policies and directives
  • To gather and analyse data and use it to plan and manage the business
  • To plan and implement strategic changes to improve service delivery
  • To manage the premises and grounds to ensure they are kept in good order and
  • meet the stringent company standards, and that appropriate security is in place at all times
  • To ensure the village meets all regulatory and statutory requirements including fire, health and safety, COSHH, RIDDOR, employment and compliance with the
  • appropriate Acts

Care and Quality

  • To ensure adherence throughout the village to all operational, administrative,
  • nursing, care and professional standards to enable residents’ care and social needs
  • to be met at all times
  • To ensure appropriate clinical governance and internal monthly audits are carried
  • out and appropriate actions taken, and any external audits are completed as
  • necessary
  • To identify and address quality issues, in liaison with the appropriate staff/teams
  • To implement the learning from all serious incidents, complaints, relevant clinical audits and residents surveys, etc
  • To provide incident management support
  • To ensure company policies and procedures relating to complaints, accident and incidents are followed precisely and appropriate support obtained as necessary
  • To ensure concerns raised by staff or residents regarding care and safeguarding are listened to, acted upon & escalated as appropriate and ensure feedback is given.

Personnel

  • To manage the recruitment, selection, appraisal, development, discipline and
  • motivation of all staff within the village and ensure excellent inter-departmental
  • communication
  • To cultivate an open & honest culture where people feel able to raise concerns & share good practice – through role modelling & positive reinforcement
  • To build and maintain a sound organisational structure, with appropriate succession planning strategies

Other responsibility

  • To ensure that all deadlines for completion of work are met
  • To know all business products and services information
  • To ensure that any documentation produced reflects the overall quality achieved within the business
  • To ensure that all reports and statistics required by the business are prepared on
  • time and highlight any area of concern

Essential:

  • Knowledge of Health & Social Care legislation in UK
  • Knowledge and understanding of monitoring and auditing care and quality and authentic interest in maintaining the quality of service and standards

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of Health & Safety issues in health & social care
  • Knowledge and experience of formulating policies and procedures
  • Knowledge and experience of marketing a nursing home facility or retirement village
  • Knowledge and experience of networking and establishing relationships with health professionals, such as CCGs, GPs, local authority, health authority, etc

Education and experience

Essential:

  • A minimum 2:2 degree in any subject or an alternative equivalent health or management-related qualification
  • At least 5 years management experience at a senior level in a small/medium sized enterprise
  • At least 5 years’ experience of recruiting, managing, motivating, supervising and retaining staff
  • Proven experience and skills in delivering excellent customer services

Desirable:

  • NVQ Level 4 – Registered Managers Award or equivalent
  • Evidence of formal training in clinical audit or quality improvement
