Lisa's success story

To anyone thinking about doing an apprenticeship, Lisa’s advice is, "Be brave and go for it. It doesn’t matter what stage you are at in your career or life; there is an apprenticeship out there for everyone who wants to learn and develop. Bupa offers so many amazing apprenticeships, and it is such a great opportunity to learn alongside work.''

Lisa has always been passionate about developing her skills and knowledge in HR. When the chance to pursue an apprenticeship alongside her job came up, she was quick to accept our offer. This exciting journey has opened up new career pathways within the people team and given her invaluable insights into the field.

Throughout Lisa’s apprenticeship journey, she has learnt new aspects of HR she wouldn’t usually encounter in her day-to-day role. Her manager has been a great support in finding ways to integrate her new skills into her role. "They've encouraged me to take on projects outside my comfort zone, which has been great for my development," Lisa noted. She also praised her tutor, saying, "My tutor has been amazing—always available for questions and a great source of knowledge and support throughout my apprenticeship."

Lisa credits her amazing manager and supportive team for helping her juggle work and study. "It's been fantastic to have dedicated time each week to focus on studying and then apply what I've learnt to my work. Plus, I get to develop new skills by taking on different projects and tasks," she shared. "Blocking out set times in my diary for studying really helps."

Returning to studying after nearly 20 years has been one of the biggest challenges for Lisa. "Getting back into the habit of taking in information, writing essays and assignments, and learning new things while working in a busy role and managing life outside of work with family and children has sometimes been challenging," she admitted. "Trying to retain everything that I have learnt has at times been overwhelming, but my tutor has been a great source of confidence for me and really puts my mind at ease that I am on the right track. I am a bit of a perfectionist, so I like to always give everything 100%."

One of the biggest takeaways from Lisa's apprenticeship is the profound personal and professional growth she's experienced. "The apprenticeship has given me a lot more confidence in various workplace scenarios and situations," Lisa shared. "It has equipped me with invaluable skills that I can apply in my role." She highlighted that one of the most significant areas of improvement has been her presentation skills and effective communication, thanks to her dedicated tutor.
