Role profile

Maintenance Supervisor

The role

As a Maintenance Supervisor, you’ll ensure a portfolio of our care homes remain functional at all times, working with our on-site maintenance teams to ensure our residents have a safe and comfortable environment. 

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring that the external and internal building and grounds are maintained to a safe and acceptable standard of repair, carrying out any works with the minimum disturbance to occupants and visitors
  • Ensuring that all maintenance and repair tasks within the care homes are completed to a high standard, in a timely manner and offer value for money
  • Contribute to the completion of the annual care homes maintenance budget
  • Ensure that all health and safety and compliance checks are carried out as per the timescales directed by Bupa Standard Operating Procedures and by Bupa compliance management tools and software
  • Ensure that safety and cleanliness within the care homes and grounds is to the satisfaction of Environmental Health, local Fire Authority requirements and Health and Safety regulations
  • Undertake quarterly Maintenance Audit and report/act on issues relating to building fabric condition, infection control, and Environmental Health Officer issues
  • Liaising with, and supporting, our care home-based Maintenance Operatives across the allocated homes, including assisting with the induction and training of new starters
  • Cover annual leave, sickness, or vacancies in the allocated homes and attend maintenance meetings around the portfolio as directed
  • Ensuring that all health and safety and compliance checks are carried to deadlines, and all policies and guidelines are adhered to at all times

Key Skills / Qualifications needed for this role:

  • A full driving licence is essential for this role.
  • You hold a building/electrical/plumbing qualification or have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a property maintenance or general repairs role. It is essential that you hold a current blue CSCS card for a ‘skilled worker’ and a current gold CSCS card for a ‘supervisor’ is preferable, but not essential for this role.
  • Previous experience of managing a team is essential and some experience managing consultants, contractors and contracted suppliers is preferred.
  • You will need to have experience in managing Health and Safety matters relating to construction and general maintenance (completing permit to work, writing and assessing risk assessments and method statements).
  • Friendly and approachable, you’ll have a good understanding of building services including, heating, hot and cold-water distribution, ventilation, electrical distribution, and plumbing.
  • You understand the importance of maintaining high standards and have knowledge of relevant statutory requirements and compliance.
  • You can work flexibly to meet demands and you’re always happy to help the wider team.
  • You enjoy working with others and building relationships with our residents.

Maintenance Operative

The role

As a Maintenance Operative, you’ll ensure the care home remains functional at all times and our residents have a safe and comfortable environment. We’ll support you to get the most out of your career, including putting you through any required training for the role and support any career development ambitions.

Key Skills / Qualifications needed for this role:

  • A good understanding of building services including, heating, hot and cold water distribution, ventilation, electrical distribution and plumbing.
  • A good understanding of building fabric and its maintenance.
  • Practical experience of planned maintenance systems and record keeping.
  • Knowledge of relevant statutory requirements and experience of compliance.
  • A full driving licence and willing to support neighbouring Bupa care homes.
  • A minimum of 3 years hand on experience in property maintenance and general repairs, or building/electrical/plumbing qualification (City & Guilds, BTEC, ONC, HNC etc) or
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Computer literate.
  • Good Customer service skills.
  • Be flexible to meet changing demands within the care home.
  • Practical ability and experience in painting and decorating.
